Objective of Position/ Job Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the Production department including but not limited to; scheduling work flow, oversee production efficiency, product quality, employees’ safety/wellbeing, creating/updating work instructions, enforcing standard operating procedures and daily operations. This manager will also work with other department managers to accomplish production goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Involved in planning, coordination, and control of manufacturing processes. Ensure products are produced efficiently and the correct amount is produced at the right cost and level of quality.
  • Improve production systems, processes, and policies in support of organization’s mission
    • Focus on maximizing production, profitability, and improving quality by:
      • Optimizing machine production by increasing efficiencies, minimizing downtime, optimizing line speeds, etc.
      • Optimizing equipment and production personnel manning
      • Striving for operational excellence
      • Developing a continuous improvement plan by setting specific goals
    • Increasing organizational effectiveness:
      • Personnel development plans
      • Leadership training
      • Developing production and maintenance budgets
      • Contribute to short and long term organizational planning
    • Risk management
  • Develop and maintain a positive working environment by encouraging employees to be high performers who work safely, efficiently, and productively.
  • Hold supervisors and employees accountable to company’s policies and procedures.
  • Oversee overall production and work with Quality department  to produce a quality product
  • Work with Production Coordinator to; update the department on any new or changing products, concerns with employee issues, product quality, and upcoming events, follow through on training/policy updates, annual performance reviews and pay increases.
  • Troubleshoot with pertinent employees on issues and problem solve solutions.
  • Working with Maintenance department to ensure machines are working safely and efficiently
  • Lead and attend daily and scheduling production meetings – coordinate daily schedule of personnel and product flow.
  • Attend periodic quality and safety meetings.

 

Competency or Position Requirements:

  • Ability to read, interpret, create and teach; instructions, short correspondence, training sessions, polices and memos.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and/or through written materials.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group and large group situations to employees, customers, and vendors.
  • This position requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in common units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs is required.
  • This position also requires the knowledge of compliance with all applicable laws and policies in regards to; hiring, terminations, promotions, discipline, training.
  • Ability to apply understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form is needed.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations is required.
  • Proficient in computer software/programs (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Able to create standard operating procedures and work instructions.

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage Production Coordinator and direct reports within the Production Department.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Degree in a related field preferred.
  • 15 years of related manufacturing experience including 5+ years in Management.
  • Proficient in computer software/programs (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Able to create standard operating procedures and work instructions.

 

Physical Factors/Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is required to sit, bend, stoop, twist, use hands and fingers, handle and feel objects and tools and balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
